The Governorship Tribunal in Birnin Kebbi has admitted the original certificates of Deputy Governor Abubakar Umar. These documents were presented by the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Schools Education. The purpose was to verify Umar’s education credentials and his participation in the mock examination of Sultan Abubakar Teachers College.
Umar Abubakar Argungu’s original certificates presented included GCE O Level, National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply from Kaduna Polytechnic, Higher National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply from Kaduna Polytechnic, and an MSc in Transport from Ogun State University.
The Permanent Secretary, represented by Director Exams Mustapha Idris Musa, clarified that he was appearing before the Tribunal as per a subpoena from his permanent secretary.
During the process, Abdulrahaman Jafar Lawal, the second subpoenaed witness, was cross-examined by the counsels of the respondents and the petitioners. Musa explained that the subpoena they received required them to produce various documents, including the 1979 mock examination broadsheet from their college.
Additionally, Musa revealed that Zayanu Muhd Umar, who claimed to be the principal of Sultan Abubakar College, was actually a vice principal. He had allegedly presented himself as the principal without the proper authorization, while the genuine principal, Mustapha Abubakar, was present at the time.
Following the admission of the documents and the evidence from the subpoenaed witnesses, Justice Ofem O. Ofem, the tribunal Chairman, adjourned the hearing for continuation to today.
