The Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) have been scrapped. The clarification came after Education Minister Maruf Olatunji Alausa presented a proposal at a National Council on Education meeting in Abuja, suggesting a shift to 12 years of compulsory education.
The ministry explained that the proposal aims to remove the examination barrier between JSS and SSS, allowing students to progress seamlessly. However, no immediate policy change has been made, and the plan will undergo extensive stakeholder consultations before a final decision in October 2025.
The government urged the public to ignore false claims, emphasizing that Nigeria’s education system remains intact. The proposal is still under review, and any changes will be made with input from key stakeholders.
