Group requests that Uzodinma step aside in the Edo APC Primary

The African Civil Society Forum has demanded that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Committee, resign.

According to the group, Uzodinma led a subpar primary.
Remember that two candidates withdrew from the race a few hours before it started, and three of the ten candidates that ran claim to have won.
On Saturday, the Uzodinma Primary Election Committee named Hon. Dennis Idahosa the victor.

Similarly, Chief Returning Officer Dr. Stanley Ugboaja declared Senator Okpebholo the winner, and Local Government Returning Officer Spokesman Mr. Ojo Babatunde named Hon. Anamero Sunday Dekeri the winner of the primary.

President Bola Tinubu was praised by Dr. Tunji Asaolu, the Chairman of the group’s Governing Board, during a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja for his intervention in the conflict that followed the primaries.

According to Asaolu, the President’s intervention, which resulted in the cancellation of the entire exercise, validates his status as a genuine democrat who loves all Nigerians with a fatherly affection.
Asaolu asked all parties participating in the Edo State APC primary election to fulfill their responsibilities in a way that upholds the rule of law, justice, and openness.

In order to ensure that the people’s decision is honored and upheld, he continued, it is imperative that the rescheduling process be carried out honorably and in line with democratic values.

“Under the auspices of the Directorate of Political Affairs and Governance, I wish to commend Mr. President for his decisive intervention in this matter,” Asaolu said on behalf of the African Civil Society Forum.

“His fatherly role in trying to find a way out of the divisive primary election impasse is admirable and shows his dedication to preserving democratic norms and values. Demanding Respect for Democratic Principles:

“We hereby call on Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the Chairman of the Edo APC governorship primary election, to resign from office after leading a shoddy primary that Nigerians have called a quagmire to restore confidence in the process.”

The group stated that Nigerians must have faith in the election commission, particularly APC members.
