Group Warns Tinubu: Cutting Power Supply to Niger Could Hurt National Interest

The group highlights that discontinuing electricity supply to Niger, which violates a long-standing treaty, could potentially jeopardize our national welfare, especially in light of the ongoing construction of the Kandadji dam by the Nigerien Government.

This sentiment was expressed in an open letter signed by notable figures including A B Mahmoud SAN, Prof Jibrin Ibrahim, Gen (rtd) M L Agwai, Prof Attahiru Jega, and others, and directed to President Tinubu.

In the communication dated August 9, 2023, the citizens commend President Tinubu, who also chairs ECOWAS, for his swift actions. These actions involve issuing statements, sharing communiqués, engaging in missions, and consulting with global and regional leaders to promptly restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.

The missive, titled “Harmonizing ECOWAS Efforts with Our National Concerns Amid the Niger Coup d’état,” conveys their perspective on the matter.
