Three members of the Edo State Security Network were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Okhun Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state. The gunmen, numbering over 10, invaded the community and attacked the security personnel who were on duty.
Eyewitnesses offered different explanations for the attack. Some believed it was related to a leadership dispute in the community, while others suspected it was a reprisal attack by a cult group.
A member of the Emergency Social Safety Net, known as ‘Commander Small Baba,’ confirmed the incident in a viral video. He reported that they received information about the hoodlums’ activities in Okhun Community and immediately responded. However, they were ambushed by the attackers, resulting in the death of three security personnel, including Small Baba, who sustained injuries but managed to escape.
The incident follows previous violence in Okhun Community, which had escalated into a cult war in Benin, resulting in several casualties.
