Erling Haaland continues to make headlines as the Manchester City forward set a new milestone for Norway, surpassing a national record that stood since 1934.
In a 3-0 Nations League win against Slovenia, Haaland scored twice, becoming Norway’s all-time leading scorer with 34 goals.

The previous record, held by Norwegian football legend Jeorgen Juve with 33 goals, remained untouched for nearly 90 years. Haaland, now the outright record-holder, achieved this feat in just 36 international matches – nine fewer than Juve.

With regular captain Martin Odegaaard absent due to injury, Haaland stepped up as Norway’s captain and delivered a stellar performance. His first goal came in the 7th minute, when he capitalized on a rebound fron Jan Oblabk’s save. This strike tied him with Juve’s long lasting record.

Although he missed a chance early in the second half, Erling continued to be a key player throughout the match. In the 62nd minute, he netted his second goal, recieving a perfect pass from Alexander Sorloth and finishing with his left foot to secure his place in history.

After the game, Haaland expressed his pride in the achievement, calling it “big and historic”. He added, “It is big and historic. I’m happy, and it’s a fantastic record to achieve. I have many years left, and I’m enjoying myself.”

Norway, now leading League B Group 3 in the Nations League, is hopeful for a return to a major international tournament – a feat they haven’t completed since Euro 2000. With Haaland’s leadership, optimism is high for ending that drought. The team’s next test comes with an away match against Austria, where Haaland will look to further extend his record and move Norway closer to international success.
