Housekeeper Emmanuel Robson was given a 14-year prison term on Thursday by an Igbosere Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta for stealing various amounts of money from his employer.
Robson was sentenced by Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle after entering a guilty plea to 15 counts.
According to Erinle, the prison sentence should be served in order.
Prior to his court appearance, the defendant was charged with breaking into the master bedroom of his employer in order to take a security key that was maintained in the business.
Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, the police prosecutor, said the court that the offenses were committed between July 4 and July 8, 2023, at around 10am, at No. 6, Taiwo Osipitan Close, Parkview Estate-Ikoyi, Lagos.
Osuji testified in court that Robson unlawfully broke into Odion Bello’s house and took a Toshiba laptop worth N800,000.
“Robson stole €2,000, £1,000, $1000, four gold wristwatches valued at N4 million, puds valued at N450,000, 800 Qatar Riyal in cash, and one Puma wristwatch valued at N1.2 million,” he claimed.
Other things taken included a diamond ring and necklaces for N100 million, a necklace worth N5 million, a music box worth N500,000, a credit card, and a black platinum visa credit card issued in the United Kingdom.
All of the stolen goods, according to the prosecutor, belonged to Bello, the plaintiff.
The magistrate found Robson guilty and gave him prison
terms of six months for count 1, two years for count 2, six months for count 3, and one year for counts 4 through 6.
The sentence was to be served concurrently, per Magistrate Erinle’s directive.
