How Niger police apprehended alleged serial killer

Usman Yahaya Muhammad, a suspected serial killer, was apprehended by the Niger State Police Command in the state’s Kinboku-Kudu Village, Mokwa Local Government Area.

The police claimed that the alleged serial killer had murdered a motorcyclist.

The state’s public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, announced the arrest during a parade of Muhammad and other suspects in Minna, the state’s capital, and explained

that after killing his victim, the suspect abandoned the body and escaped from the site on the motorcycle.
In the meantime, Mohammad admitted to the crime in an interview, saying that he had ridden the victim’s motorcycle to the village of Eppa. However, he killed the rider before getting there.

When questioned about the murder’s motivation, he replied, “I cannot answer why I killed him. I had a reason for doing it. After killing him, I reported myself to the local vigilante leader, who subsequently informed the police about the occurrence, which resulted in my imprisonment.
“I twice slashed the Okada rider’s neck with a machete, causing him to fall. I then drove off with the motorcycle.

He said, “No, I want to die the way I killed,” when asked if he desired to suffer the same fate as what he inflicted on his victim. I desire to live.

The suspect reportedly disclosed that he had an upcoming wedding on Friday and that he had already done eight such crimes.

The police leadership also said that they had recently detained 38 people, seven of whom had been charged with a variety of crimes in the state, including banditry, abduction, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.
