Human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has called for the immediate suspension of the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance in Nigeria. Representing the Take It Back Movement, Adegboruwa released a statement on Friday urging the halt of demonstrations due to incidents of violence and destruction by suspected hoodlums.
Last Friday, Adegboruwa had notified the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, of planned rallies and processions organized by the Take It Back Movement and other groups, scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024. He emphasized the police’s role in ensuring safety during these events and requested details of officers assigned to cover the protests.
Despite initial plans, Adegboruwa now calls for a suspension, citing the hijacking of protests by violent elements leading to killings, lootings, and damage to government properties.
