The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan. According to FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Obiageli Orah, the Federal Government approved the shutdown to allow for major upgrade work at the airport.
The closure is part of efforts by the Oyo State Government to upgrade the airport from a domestic to an international standard. FAAN stated that the move was necessary to improve infrastructure and ensure the safety of passengers and staff. The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency has also shut down the runway in line with aviation regulations.
FAAN has urged travelers and stakeholders to be patient during the upgrade, assuring them that the improvements will enhance airport operations once completed.
