The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has officially charged Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended dean of the University of Calabar’s Faculty of Law, with a crime after the anti-graft commission’s investigation into the don’s alleged serious misconduct against a few of his students came to a close.
The ICPC is arraigning the senior lecturer on four counts of official corruption, sexual harassment, and abuse of office in violation of Sections 8, 18, and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The charge sheet number for this case is FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2023.
In one of the counts, it was stated, “That you, Professor CYRIL OSIM NDIFON (m), between June and September 2023 at Calabar, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, and while being a public officer charged with the responsibility for the certification of students as fit in learning and character as a prerequisite for the award of a bachelor’s degree in law and admission into the Nigeria Law School, used your office and position as the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar to gratify yourself by requesting nude photos and videos from one Ms. ABC (not real name), a second-year diploma student at the University of Calabar, and as a result, I committed an offense against S. 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Act, 2000.
Ndifon will appear in court on a date that the judge will determine.
According to the media, Ndifon was detained by the ICPC and the Department of State Services on October 4, 2023, in Calabar, Cross River State, after he turned down many invitations to speak.
