The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has approved the transformation of the Force Intelligence Bureau into the Force Intelligence Department within the Nigeria Police Force. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen and enhance the intelligence capabilities of the NPF, with the aim of addressing contemporary security challenges more effectively.
In addition to this restructuring, the IG has appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police Habu Sani as the new Head of the Force Intelligence Department. DIG Habu Sani, a Geography graduate from Usman Danfodiyo University, joined the police as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992. He has undergone various specialized and strategic training courses, including those related to criminal intelligence analysis, intelligence processing, technical intelligence management, and border police techniques. He has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative roles within the Nigeria Police Force.
The IG also announced the appointment of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to head the Zonal Intelligence Departments and State Intelligence Departments across the country. This move aims to infuse these units with leadership that possesses a blend of operational experience, strategic thinking, and a strong commitment to maintaining law and order. It is expected to lead to more effective intelligence operations, enhanced crime prevention efforts, and an overall elevation of law enforcement standards.
Furthermore, a delegation from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, including the founder, Abdulraheem Oladimeji, and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Noah Yusuf, recently visited the IG at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. They expressed their intention to collaborate with the Nigeria Police College of Intelligence in Kwara State, particularly in offering special degree-awarding courses for participants of Senior Command Courses at the Police Staff College in Jos. The IG welcomed this partnership and instructed the DIG in charge of Training and Development to work on developing a memorandum of understanding, aiming to boost the NPF’s intelligence capacity and train a new generation of intelligence professionals.
