Imo State Court Affirms Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph as Labour Party Candidate
In a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Owerri has confirmed Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph as the legitimate Labour Party candidate for the upcoming Imo State governorship election.
Justice BO. Quadri dismissed the claims of plaintiff Basil Maduka, stating that Maduka was not a participant in the nomination process nor the primary election. As such, he lacked the standing to challenge the party’s nomination process.
The court acknowledged the exhibits presented by the defendants, which indicated that the primary election was held on April 16, 2023, refuting Maduka’s assertion that it took place on April 15, 2023.
Quadri emphasized that lacking locus standi means lacking jurisdiction, and therefore, the court dismissed the suit against the defendants due to its incompetency.
This ruling establishes Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph as the rightful Labour Party candidate for the Imo State governorship election, and puts an end to the legal challenge brought forward by Basil Maduka.
