The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the collation of results for the Imo State governorship election. The process, under the guidance of the returning officer, Prof Abayomi Fasina, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University in Oye, Ekiti, began at 2:40 am on Sunday at the collation center in Owerri, the state capital.
This swift commencement of result compilation follows closely after the conclusion of the governorship election, one of three off-season elections conducted in the country on Saturday.
Despite the prompt start of the collation process, videos circulating on social media depict party agents expressing concern and protesting against the quick compilation of results at the venue. In one of the videos, an agent is heard questioning, “Where are we rushing to?”
The governorship election in Imo State features Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress seeking re-election. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party and Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party emerge as the other prominent candidates in the race. Stay tuned for further updates on the ongoing collation process.
