The Nigerian Army announced on August 24 that its forces had dismantled a large illegal refinery in Delta State. The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, shared this information on the army’s official social media account.
Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army undertook anti-oil theft operations in response to actionable intelligence. They targeted an illegal oil refinery site in the Ogbokoko and Atu areas of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State.
During the operation, the soldiers destroyed eight active ovens used for the illicit refining of stolen crude oil. They also discovered and dismantled 14 storage reservoirs containing approximately 200,000 liters of stolen crude oil, as well as another 90,000 liters of locally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The criminals responsible for the illegal refinery fled upon seeing the advancing troops. The site was destroyed in line with established protocols of Operation Delta Safe. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to locate and apprehend the fugitives.
Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu urged the public to report any suspected acts of sabotage or criminal activity to security agencies, thereby aiding efforts to combat economic sabotage in the country.
