The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is currently monitoring the mock accreditation in Kogi State ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa and Imo states. The mock accreditation is expected to take place in the three states on Saturday.
INEC scheduled the mock accreditation for October 14 in polling units in the three states to test-run the technologies to be deployed on Election Day and to increase voter confidence in the commission’s activities.
During his visit to Kogi State, Prof. Yakubu stopped at one of the commission’s offices in Koton Karfe Local Government Area, where the Electoral Officer, Hassan Musa, assured the INEC Chairman that the local government was ready to conduct the governorship election in the state.
Yakubu encouraged the Electoral Officer to work closely with the security agencies, emphasizing that all polling units must be opened by 8:30 a.m.
The Chairman proceeded to one of the Registration Area Centres in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, to assess the activities at the polling units. During this visit, four registered voters were accredited without any issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
