The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted a mock accreditation exercise ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states. The mock accreditation was scheduled for October 14 to test-run the election technology and increase voter confidence in the commission’s activities.
After the exercise in Kogi state, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated that the commission is actively working on security arrangements for the upcoming elections. A high-level meeting in Abuja, chaired by the INEC Chairman and the National Security Adviser, will include discussions with security chiefs from the three states.
Yakubu clarified that electronic accreditation and electronic transmission of results are the methods stipulated by law. He urged people to disregard any reports to the contrary. Non-sensitive materials have been delivered for the governorship election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kogi state expressed readiness to conduct the election and mentioned the need for the Central Bank to provide cash directly to avoid transportation delays.
The INEC conducted mock accreditation exercises in different locations, including a Registration Area Centre in Ajaokuta LGA, to prepare for the election.
