“Interior Minister Calls for an End to Endless Passport Wait”

The newly appointed Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed concern over the delays that Nigerians often face when obtaining their passports. He emphasized that citizens should not have to wait excessively for their passports and directed the acting Comptroller General of the Immigration, Caroline Wuraola-Adepoju, to address the underlying causes of these delays.

Tunji-Ojo conveyed his sentiments during a meeting with the heads of paramilitary organizations under the Ministry of Interior and other stakeholders. He highlighted President Buhari’s desire to bring about significant reforms in the immigration policy and service. He stressed the need to collaborate and streamline processes to make immigration services more efficient and beneficial to the people.

Furthermore, the minister expressed his intention to deploy technology to enhance border security, in addition to human efforts. He stressed the importance of securing all borders, including land, air, and sea, using technology to complement and strengthen existing efforts.

Tunji-Ojo also mentioned that key performance indicators would be introduced to evaluate the performance of staff and heads of paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior. He emphasized the importance of accountability in delivering effective services.

The minister’s statements reflect a commitment to improving efficiency and security within the immigration and interior sectors of Nigeria.
