The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic murder of a councillor in the Funtua Local Government Area of the state. The victim, identified as Samaila Mairago, was fatally shot by unknown gunmen on Monday night at his residence in Nasarawa Quarters, Funtua.
According to local residents, Samaila Mairago was serving as the councillor representing Nasarawa Ward within the local government. The gunmen reportedly descended on the town on Monday night and specifically targeted his residence.
The councillor tragically lost his life during the attack, with no confirmation yet on whether the assailants made off with any of his belongings.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident and assured the public that an investigation into the matter had already commenced. However, as of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made in connection with the case.
Aliyu stated, “We have commenced an investigation into the incident. No arrest has been made so far but we shall keep you posted as the investigation progresses.”
The motive behind the attack and the identities of the perpetrators remain subjects of investigation as the authorities work to bring those responsible to justice.
