May 30 is Biafra Day, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, have insisted on celebrating it in the South-East.
According to the group, the day is designated as a memorial for those who lost their lives in the Civil War between July 6, 1967, and January 15, 1970.
This was said by the pro-Biafra organization in a statement made public on Tuesday by Emma Powerful, the group’s media and publicity secretary.
“We want to remind everyone who lives in Biafra territory that the sit-at-home on May 30, 2024, in observance of Biafra Heroes Day, is important, and we oblige everyone to abide by this order, its only one day,” the statement read.
IPOB emphasized that on May 30, all activities in the South-East region are prohibited. The organization also urged the governors of the area to ensure sufficient security for both people and property on that day.
