The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who advocate for restructuring, urging them to abandon the idea. According to IPOB, what the Igbo people want is a referendum, not restructuring.
In a statement released by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB stated that the era of individuals wearing red caps claiming to speak on behalf of the Igbo people is over. They firmly stated that they will not back down from their demand for a UN-supervised referendum to determine whether Biafra should remain a part of Nigeria or seek independence.
Powerful emphasized, “Biafrans want a referendum. IPOB members and supporters worldwide represent over 90 per cent of Biafrans. We have made it clear to the Federal Government and the international community that Biafrans want a referendum to democratically decide to either remain in Nigeria or exit Nigeria. This is our only demand.”
IPOB believes that once the Nigerian government heeds their call for a Biafra referendum, it will help solve a major problem in the country. The pro-Biafran group also criticized what they referred to as “Igbo political jobbers” and their actions, which they claim have endangered the South-East and the region’s economic stability.
