Jada Pinkett Smith has declared that she and Will Smith are committed to staying together forever, despite their prior announcement of a separation dating back to 2016. In a pre-aired interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore discussed the couple’s separation in the context of Pinkett Smith’s recent memoir, “Worthy.”
During the conversation, Barrymore suggested that the couple’s paths seemed to have diverged in the book, but Pinkett Smith asserted, “We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried.”
In October, Pinkett Smith surprised the public by revealing that she and Smith had been separated since 2016. Although legally divorcing wasn’t in their plans, Pinkett Smith expressed exhaustion with the effort they had invested by 2016 during an interview with Today show host Hoda Kotb.
At a subsequent book tour event, Pinkett Smith disclosed her decision to recommit to the marriage following an incident at the 2022 Academy Awards when Smith slapped Chris Rock. She emphasized her commitment to standing by him through challenges, stating, “I am NOT going to leave your side.”
At the same event, Smith characterized their relationship as “brutiful,” acknowledging its combination of brutality and beauty. He affirmed his unwavering support for Pinkett Smith, declaring her as the best friend he has ever had and expressing his commitment to being there for her throughout their lives.
