According to the Jigawa State Police Command, four alleged kidnappers and a gunmaker have been taken into custody.
In a statement provided to newsmen on Friday, DSP Shiisu Adam, the command’s public relations officer, revealed this.
He clarified that the police and neighborhood vigilante groups worked together to make the arrests.
He declared, “On November 16, 2023, Bashir Muhammad, age 50, was apprehended by the police in Yandutsen Kawari village, Ringim Local Government Area, working with the local vigilante group. “Two locally produced rifles and a pistol were found during the search of his home.
Adam claims the suspect admitted to producing and selling guns to unidentified customers during questioning.
The State Criminal inquiry Department in Dutse has received the suspect for additional inquiry, he mentioned.
On November 17, 2023, he continued, a distress call was received concerning the kidnapping of Alhaji Shehu Kwaimawa, a 63-year-old merchant, in Kwaimawa village, Dutse LGA.
“When the police arrived on the scene right away, they found that the victim had been abducted by the kidnappers,” he wrote.
Nevertheless, the victim was freed by the kidnappers at Baranda Forest in Dutse LGA on November 17, 2023.
The PPRO further stated that on November 18, 2023, a joint operation team made up of police officers, State Intelligence Bureau agents, and members of the Nigerian Vigilante Group raided the Rigija Fulani settlement in Hara Village, Dutse LGA, on a tip.
39 cows, four sheep, a damaged rifle butt, one chain, and a Boxer motorcycle with registration number KMC 790 HJ Kano—thought to be owned by the abducting kidnappers—were found during the operation, he claimed.
He confirmed that every item that was found has been placed into custody for additional examination.
when a follow-up inquiry, three people—Samaila Adamu, Illiyasu Abdu, and Mamman Abdullahi—were taken into custody when the abducted victim revealed they had been involved in the kidnapping.
Adam said, “The State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse is currently conducting an investigation. When it is finished, everyone will be arraigned before the court.”
