JLR Drives Data Upskilling Program to Boost Range Rover Production

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is spearheading a groundbreaking data upskilling apprenticeship program in England, enrolling over 600 employees in the Multiverse Data Fellowship Apprenticeship. The initiative is aimed at advancing JLR’s digital transformation efforts and is already yielding significant benefits.

Within just six months of joining the program, Kamil Poreda, a Facilities Monitoring Controller and Data Fellowship Apprentice, utilized his newfound data skills to identify production inefficiencies. By creating a specialized dashboard for maintenance managers, he provided crucial insights into manufacturing line efficiency, resulting in a production increase of over 600 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles per week at JLR’s Solihull plant. This boost generated additional weekly revenues of over £50 million and ensured faster delivery to waiting customers.

Kamil Poreda expressed his satisfaction with the program, stating, “The Data Fellowship Programme has really enriched me as an employee and the business as a whole. Getting the opportunity to enhance my data knowledge and apply it to my day-to-day role on the shop floor was really empowering.”

More than 600 JLR employees have enrolled in this specialized data training program, which was launched in partnership with tech startup Multiverse in August last year. Another 400 employees are scheduled to commence the course later this year.

Over a period of 15 months, the comprehensive curriculum covers various topics, including data modeling, analysis, Python, and Machine Learning. This initiative will equip JLR’s workforce with essential data skills, promoting collaboration and enabling effective data utilization in the cloud.

As the automotive industry embraces the electric era and relies on vast amounts of data, JLR is committed to cultivating a data-driven mindset. This digital transformation is crucial for supporting growth, enhancing the customer experience, increasing productivity, and improving the expertise of their workforce.

Anthony Battle, Group Chief Digital and Information Officer at JLR, emphasized the program’s impact, stating, “The Multiverse data upskilling program is transforming our company’s ability to harness the power of data, enabling us to make better decisions, innovate faster, and deliver more amazing modern luxury vehicles for our clients.”

Euan Blair, founder and CEO of Multiverse, highlighted the value of the apprenticeship program, stating, “It’s clear from the results how those enrolled on these programs are not only creating real value for JLR but, in the process, are allowing the participants to hugely enhance their own careers and gain direct access to skills that are at the epicenter of the future of work.”

Addressing the data skills shortage in the UK, estimated to cost businesses £2 billion annually, Multiverse aims to bridge the gap by offering exceptional alternatives to university education and corporate training through apprenticeships. Currently, they provide training to over 8,000 apprentices specializing in technology, leadership, and digital skills.
