On Wednesday, the Kaduna State House of Assembly received a damning report from an ad hoc committee investigating the finances, loans, and contracts during former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure. The report accused El-Rufai and several former commissioners of siphoning ₦423 billion of state resources.
The House urged the current governor, Uba Sani, to refer El-Rufai and the former finance commissioners to relevant security agencies for investigation. During the plenary, Deputy Speaker Henry Magaji Danjuma, who chairs the ad hoc committee, highlighted that many loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were diverted and due process was often not followed.
Speaker Yusuf Liman confirmed the report’s findings, stating that El-Rufai’s administration left the state with substantial liabilities. The committee recommended that El-Rufai and his implicated cabinet members be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies for abuse of office, contract fraud, and money laundering.
