Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has defended Afrobeats star Davido after his recent comments about Nigeria’s struggling economy sparked public backlash. In a controversial interview, Davido advised African Americans against relocating to Africa, citing Nigeria’s economic challenges.
In a video shared on Instagram from the UK, Kanayo urged Nigerians to respect Davido’s freedom of speech, stating that the singer’s remarks were made in good faith. He dismissed calls for an apology, emphasizing that Davido, despite his privileged background, was advocating for ordinary Nigerians.

“Leave Davido alone. He has the right to speak his mind. He spoke in good faith, and it’s up to those in power to work towards a better Nigeria. Criticism often comes from a place of wanting better,” Kanayo said, highlighting that Davido’s family is well-off, yet he still speaks for those struggling in the country.
