“Kano APC Denies Bribery Allegations: No Tribunal Bribes, Says Party”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) sounded a stern warning to the Kano State government, cautioning them against tarnishing the reputation of Justice Flora Azinge, Chair of the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal. The reason behind this caution is the perceived weak defense put forth by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the tribunal.

The APC expressed concern over the Kano State Government’s efforts to discredit Justice Azinge, suggesting that their actions could be fueled by anxiety over the impending verdict. By fabricating stories and quoting the judge out of context, they are showing a lack of respect for both her and the broader judicial system.

In a statement by Mallam Muhammad Garba, the former Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and spokesperson for Gawuna/Gari Campaign Council, it was emphasized that Justice Azinge did not specifically name any party when discussing the alleged attempt to bribe a tribunal member. Garba labeled the state government’s response as mere theatrics, designed to tarnish the image of both the tribunal and the APC.

Furthermore, Garba pointed out that the NNPP government’s allegations against the APC were a ploy to deflect from potential revelations of the true bribe giver, potentially unraveling during the tribunal’s proceedings. He also criticized the state Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, for potentially attempting to bias public opinion in favor of the government.

Garba highlighted the irony of the NNPP government’s actions, including their premature appeal while the tribunal’s proceedings were ongoing. This move, according to him, underscores their nervousness and desire to manipulate public sentiment even before the final verdict is delivered.

Emphasizing their commitment to a fair legal process, Garba stated that the APC stands firm and will not resort to bribery. He emphasized that the APC’s case is built on solid evidence presented to the tribunal, and they have cooperated fully in the proceedings.

While the APC has provided witnesses who have been cross-examined successfully, the NNPP government’s defense remains notably weak. Despite the hurdles, the APC expressed confidence that justice will be served, and their mandate will be rightfully reclaimed.

In summary, the APC is standing strong against attempts to discredit both the tribunal and its own reputation, vowing to rely on the strength of its case and the fairness of the legal system to prevail in the end.
