The Kano State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a warning to supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) against engaging in “wild celebrations” following the judgment of the gubernatorial election petitions tribunal. The Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sallau-Abdullahi, urged supporters to refrain from celebrating by causing obstruction on the roads, reckless driving, and violating traffic rules.
The FRSC emphasized that wild celebrations can lead to breaches of traffic rules and regulations, as well as road traffic accidents. They warned that those found guilty of such actions would face legal consequences.
The tribunal is expected to deliver its judgment on the petition filed by the APC challenging the victory of Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP in the March 18 election. The tribunal’s judgment is eagerly anticipated and has attracted significant attention within and outside the state, as it is seen as a proxy battle between political heavyweights with national influence.
The petition filed by the APC seeks to nullify the election results and declare the APC candidate as the winner or, alternatively, declare the election inconclusive. The NNPP and its candidate have opposed the petition, arguing that it lacks merit and should be dismissed.
The outcome of the tribunal’s judgment will have significant implications for the political landscape in Kano State and beyond.
