The Kano State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has opted out of the ongoing nationwide strike led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). Despite the strike affecting various sectors, medical practitioners in Kano affirmed their commitment to providing services.
Numerous establishments nationwide, including banks, hospitals, airports, and government offices, have closed due to the indefinite strike initiated by organized Labour to push for the implementation of the N494,000 Minimum Wage by the Federal Government. While efforts to avert the strike were unsuccessful, the NMA in Kano emphasized its professional stance separate from the NLC and declared non-participation in the strike.
Patients at some public hospitals experienced challenges as most units provided only skeletal services amidst the ongoing strike action.
