Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has criticized the federal government’s policy of categorizing electricity consumers into different bands, calling it unprecedented and unfair.
Speaking via her X account, Henshaw asserted that Nigeria is the only country that places electricity consumers in different categories. She urged the government to provide everyone with access to electricity and allow them to pay fairly for their consumption.
Henshaw wrote, “Nowhere, absolutely nowhere in the world, is there this purported ‘banding’ of electricity supply. Give everyone access to electricity and let them pay fairly for their consumption. Yet, every 2 to 3 months, there is an increase in tariff!! Daylight robbery in darkness.”
The actress shared her grievances in response to journalist Olive Modi’s stance on Nigeria’s erratic power supply, where Modi likened living in Nigeria to a toxic relationship due to constant issues. Modi highlighted the classification of electricity distribution into different bands, with band A receiving the most frequent supply and paying the most, while some consumers complain of having no power despite paying high tariffs.
