Katsina Governor directs all govt officials to declare asset

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has promised to encourage all political and public office holders in Katsina State to register their assets, emphasizing the need of transparency.

He offered the guarantee when he met with Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, the Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), at the Katsina State Government House.
While hosting the CCB helmsman, Governor Radda emphasized his commitment to creating a positive work environment for Bureau personnel in Katsina.
According to him, public authorities must first register their holdings to the CCB if they want to serve the public.

Barr. Aliyu Kankia emphasized the Bureau’s responsibilities in not only reviewing asset disclosures, but also ensuring compliance with the code of conduct for public authorities.
“This includes addressing issues like conflict of interest, bribery, corruption, prohibition of employment in foreign countries, membership in specific organizations, operating foreign bank accounts, and restriction of business activities to farming,” he went on to say.
Kankia cautioned that personnel who concealed assets without proper declaration would forfeit them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He also highlighted consequences for filing anticipatory or fraudulent declarations, including a ten-year prohibition on holding political office or leaving present positions.

Recognizing the start of verification procedures involving senior political office holders, permanent secretaries, and heads of government agencies, the CCB Acting Chairman requested Governor Radda’s assistance in encouraging wider asset reporting.

He also solicited assistance from various stakeholders to guarantee the proper implementation of their Bureau’s mandate.
