Katsina police repel gunmen, Judge, five others rescued

On Saturday night, gunmen attacked the inhabitants of Tijjani Malumfashi Housing Estate in Malunfashi, Katsina State’s local government area, and made several kidnapping attempts.

At around 11 p.m., the roughly 50 hoodlums assaulted the area with high-tech weaponry and immediately began firing into the air.

Before the quick action of the police, the military, and members of vigilante groups, the hoodlums were alleged to have gone from home to house, splitting up into groups, and brought people out.

According to a trustworthy source, the military and police arrived quickly and prevented the kidnapped people, including judge Alkali Saidu, from being taken away by the thugs.

It was revealed that before security agents arrived, no fewer than six persons were taken from their various homes, bound, and blindfolded.

The attack was successfully repelled by a combination of police officers, soldiers, and vigilante groups led by the divisional police officer in Malumfashi. Before the gunmen (the hoodlums) fled, there was a protracted firefight between them and the security guys.

However, one of the victims, a well-known businessman named Alhaji Zaharaddeen, also known as Danmaliki, was shot by the gunmen and is presently being treated at General Hospital Kwandala Malumfashi, according to the source.

Malumfashi residents have kept praising Divisional Police Officer Bello Umar and the military for their quick action and bravery in stopping the thugs from abducting numerous residents of the estate.

The incident was confirmed by Aliyu Abubakar, the Katsina Police Command’s public relations officer, when he was contacted.
But he said that the Command had started looking into the issue and would get back to our correspondent.
