Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has criticized President Bola Tinubu for acquiring a new presidential jet amidst the country’s ongoing economic challenges. The new Airbus A330, unveiled by Tinubu’s administration, replaces the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) bought during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure. However, the cost of the new jet was not disclosed, although it was said to save Nigeria millions in maintenance and fuel costs.
Okonkwo, expressing his displeasure on his X handle, called the purchase insensitive, pointing out that many Nigerians are suffering from hunger. He emphasized that his loyalty lies with the Nigerian people, not any political party or politician, and that he stands on the side of the citizens.
In response to criticism from a follower, Okonkwo reiterated his commitment to the well-being of Nigerians, underscoring the importance of the citizen’s voice in a democracy. He condemned the jet acquisition as a misplaced priority in light of the nation’s economic difficulties.
