Over the weekend, bandits broke into the Yashi community in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum Local Government Area (LGA), killing one and kidnapping four others, including the community’s traditional ruler.
This occurred after gunmen abducted Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Tarhembe, the priest of St. Ann’s Catholic Parish, Sarkin Kudu, in Ibi LGA, Taraba State.
In addition, the bandits prevented the peasants from accessing their farms and from harvesting crops.
In a similar vein, the parish’s Reverend Father’s rectory was the scene of the abduction of the Catholic priest yesterday.
Hamisu Faru, a politician in the Zamfara State House of Assembly who represents the people of Bukkuyum South, claimed that the bandits assaulted the community on Friday night at around three in the morning, killed a local, and fled with five people—including the traditional ruler.
In a similar vein, the parish’s Reverend Father’s rectory was the scene of the abduction of the Catholic priest yesterday.
In a statement sent by the Catholic Diocese of Wukari’s communications director, Rev. Fr. John Jerome Laikei, the bishop, Most Rev. Mark Nzukwein, asked the people to pray for the safe return of the kidnapped priest.
