The decomposing body of Simon Peter Ankau, a kidnapped former principal, was found in a shallow grave in Gaya town, which is situated between the LGAs of Ukum and Katsina-Ala in Benue State.
The late Ankau (74), a retired school principal, was said to have been abducted on April 18 in the Chito town of the Ukum LGA. His family has made every effort to locate him for the past four months without success.
According to information obtained, the kidnappers continued to demand a ransom from the victim’s family, and when the victim’s wife and son delivered the payment to the kidnappers, they too were taken hostage.
However, the police squad, known as Operation Zenda, liberated the wife and son along with other prisoners in May of this year, one month after the victim had been taken away.
In their ongoing search for the victim over the weekend, Operation Zenda agents under the command of Commander CSP Justine Gberindyer found and exhumed his remains.
Further information revealed that Jacob Terkaa Ankau, one of the deceased’s sons, serves as a priest at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Ayati, Ukum LGA.
As they had been assembled, the deceased Ankau’s remains were given to his family for a suitable funeral.
