Knicks Lock Down McBride with 3 Year, $13M Deal

The trade that saw RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley heading to Toronto for OG Anunoby paved the way for guard Miles McBride, who had been inconsistently used, to potentially see more playing time with the Knicks.

Signaling their belief in his potential, the Knicks secured McBride’s future by agreeing to a three-year, $13 million contract extension set to commence next season. This development was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and later officially announced by the team.

It’s noteworthy that all three years of the contract are fully guaranteed. McBride, a third-year point guard drafted from West Virginia at No. 36 in the second round, was initially chosen for his potential to evolve into a defense-oriented rotation player, aided by his 6’8″ wingspan.

While the Knicks appreciate his defensive skills, his struggle on offense, with a 35.2% overall shooting and 29.4% from beyond the arc, has limited his court time in the NBA.

This season, the point guard has shown improvement in his shooting percentages, boasting 51.7% overall and 42.1% from 3. However, these statistics are based on just 100 total minutes played in garbage time across 19 games.

With a chance for increased minutes arising, McBride now has the opportunity to validate his shooting improvement in more meaningful game situations. This development adds an intriguing element to the ongoing story at Madison Square Garden.
