The Association of Resident Doctors at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja has drawn attention to the expiration of their 21-day ultimatum issued to the state government to address their demands.
On August 9, the association had issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Kogi State Government, threatening an indefinite strike action if their demands were not met. This ultimatum came after they had suspended a two-day industrial action directed by the National Association of Resident Doctors, with the intention of providing room for dialogue and engagement with the state government.
In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Ameh Friday, President of the ARD KSSH, and Dr. Peter Samuel, Secretary General, the association expressed its concerns. They highlighted that it has been 21 days since their last communique and one month since they suspended their industrial action, as directed by the National Body of Resident Doctors.
The ARD KSSH reiterated their demands, which include an upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) from 2014 to 2023, approval of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, a review of hazard allowances in line with the National Salary, Income, and Wages Commission’s release on December 22, 2021, as well as the implementation and funding of promotions, including the payment of arrears for annual increments and promotions.
The association emphasized that the morale and well-being of its members in the Kogi State Specialist Hospital have significantly deteriorated due to the working environment and challenging economic conditions. They stated that they would convene a congress meeting within the next seven days to assess progress and make decisions regarding their demands.
This announcement underscores the pressing concerns of healthcare workers in Kogi State and their determination to seek resolution for the betterment of their working conditions and patient care.
