Yunusa Lade, the Commissioner for Water Resources, conveyed this commitment during a visit by Mrs. Theressa Pammer, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Wash Specialist, to his office in Ilorin, the state capital.

Commissioner Lade disclosed that the state government has allocated N200 million to fund initiatives aimed at providing toilets and essential utilities to discourage open defecation. Engaging lawmakers at both the state and federal levels, the government is actively seeking support to complement its efforts in eradicating this public health challenge.

Mrs. Theressa Pammer, the UNICEF Wash Specialist based in Kaduna, expressed her organization’s interest in supporting Kwara State to eliminate open defecation. Her visit to the state aims to explore collaborative strategies and understand how UNICEF can contribute to the ongoing efforts.

This collaborative approach between the Kwara State Government and UNICEF reflects a shared commitment to address the issue of open defecation, promoting improved sanitation practices for the overall well-being of the residents. The allocation of funds and engagement with legislative bodies underscore the government’s determination to create a hygienic environment and improve public health standards in Kwara State.
