Kwara Governor Mourns Akeredolu’s Death

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, as reported by The PUNCH earlier.

Akeredolu, who was 67 years old, reportedly passed away on Wednesday, with arrangements underway to swear in his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, according to sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress.

While the Ondo State government has not officially addressed the matter, Governor AbdulRazaq released a statement through his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday, offering heartfelt condolences.

Describing Akeredolu as an “exceptional statesman who made indelible marks in public service, “Kwara State AbdulRazaq highlighted the late governor’s contributions to constitutional and sociopolitical development in Nigeria.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the Progressives Governors’ Forum, the government and people of Ondo State, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the immediate family of my dear brother and colleague His Excellency Olurotimi Akeredolu SAN,” the statement conveyed.

Kwara State AbdulRazaq acknowledged Akeredolu as a frontline lawyer and conscientious politician with a progressive orientation. Despite the pain of his departure, the statement emphasized finding solace in the legacy of courage, patriotism, and immeasurable contributions Akeredolu leaves behind.

The statement concluded with a prayer for the repose of the late governor’s soul and the well-being of his family during this challenging time. The passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is mourned not only by Ondo State but resonates across the Nigerian political landscape. May he rest in peace.
