Another Isese activist, Chief Ademola Olawoore, also known as Oluwo Of Tede, has been arrested and is currently detained in a correctional facility in Ilorin, Kwara State. Olawoore was visibly shaken in a video that circulated on social media, where he was seen charged with defamation of character.
The elderly Isese activist was apprehended in Ibadan on August 19 and subsequently taken to Ilorin for detention in a correctional facility. Reports suggest that Olawoore’s arrest is connected to allegations of insulting a Muslim cleric identified as Alfa Okutagidi.
This arrest follows shortly after another prominent Isese activist, Adegbola Abdulazeez, known as Tani Olohun, was also arrested in Ibadan and transported to Ilorin by the state police command. Abdulazeez faced charges related to defaming the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and prominent clerics from the state.
Adedamola Solesi, one of the legal representatives for Abdulazeez, as well as a Facebook page called Kwara Info, confirmed Olawoore’s arrest. Solesi reassured Olawoore’s family and friends that he would soon regain his freedom, mentioning that the cases of Olawoore and another individual were being tried simultaneously.
A Facebook post titled “Defamation of character” reported that Oluwo of Tede, who alleged that Alfa Okutagidi had an idol at home, was arrested for defamation. The post further mentioned that a blogger named Tani Olohun was also arrested the day after. More details are expected to emerge.
