Kwara State Fire: N23.8M Property Loss

In a devastating incident, a fierce fire erupted in the Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The blaze, fueled by a power surge, ravaged seven flats and two shops at number 5, Ado compound. Among the ruins, three flats were reduced to ashes, while two shops, housing drugs, furniture, and assorted drinks, were completely obliterated.

Prompt intervention by the Kwara State Fire Service played a crucial role in containing the inferno and mitigating further damages. The valiant efforts of the firefighters managed to save other rooms in the building, preventing the loss of additional tangible properties. The estimated cost of the property saved is pegged at N47.4 million, while the losses incurred from the fire are estimated at N23.8 million.

Authorities have pointed to a power surge as the cause of the fire, emphasizing the importance of citizens adopting safety measures such as turning off electrical appliances before bedtime. The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, issued a reminder to the public to cultivate this habit, reducing the risk of fire outbreaks in homes and offices.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for vigilance in preventing such calamities.
