The Labour Party (LP) has expressed frustration over difficulties in serving court papers to six House of Representatives members who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party is demanding a court order to declare their seats vacant and recover salaries and allowances earned since their defection.
LP National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh and National Youth Leader Kennedy Ahanotu revealed that multiple attempts to serve the lawmakers had been evaded. The defectors, including Ajang Iliya (Plateau), Tochukwu Okere (Imo), and others, cited party crises and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policies as reasons for their move. However, the LP dismissed them as inconsequential, vowing to recover its mandate and welcoming a legal battle to ensure accountability.
Ahanotu criticized the delay in judicial processes, attributing it to inefficiencies in the justice system. He emphasized the urgency of resolving defection cases swiftly to prevent impunity and ensure true representation. The LP remains firm, stating, “Justice delayed is justice denied,” as they push for a timely resolution to uphold integrity in politics.
