Labour Party Decries Rising Poverty Under APC

The Labour Party (LP) has expressed concern over the escalating poverty in Nigeria, criticizing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the worsening economic situation. The criticism followed a viral video showing long queues of Nigerians seeking food at President Bola Tinubu’s Bourdillon residence in Lagos on Christmas Eve, shared by Senator Ali Ndume.

Speaking on the issue, LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, lamented the increasing desperation among Nigerians, attributing it to failed policies and economic hardships. He highlighted the rising cost of living, noting that a bag of rice now costs ₦100,000, making Christmas celebrations inaccessible for many. Ifoh warned that the situation could deteriorate further, with even professionals resorting to begging for survival.

Ifoh also pointed to global and local statistics that underscore Nigeria’s economic struggles, citing a poverty rate exceeding 40% and unemployment surpassing 70%. He called on the APC-led government to acknowledge the dire state of the nation and take decisive actions to address hunger and poverty.
