The leadership of the Labour Party has announced its support for the decision of its Imo State governorship candidate, Athan Achonu, to challenge the victory of Governor Hope Uzodimma in court. Athan Achonu had earlier rejected the election results, citing irregularities, vote-buying, and physical assaults on party agents.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s Campaign Organisation, Yunusa Tanko stated that they were not surprised by the election outcome, given the level of harassment and intimidation faced by their supporters. Tanko highlighted incidents such as the denial of accommodation for party supporters and heightened insecurity during the election. The Labour Party expressed solidarity with Athan Achonu’s decision to seek redress through legal means.
