The Lagos State Government has clarified that Ladipo Market has not yet reopened for business. In a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Kadiri Folashade, it was explained that the market had not fulfilled certain essential environmental and safety conditions necessary for its reopening.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), provided further clarification, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and environmental well-being of marketplaces. He noted that the market’s closure was due to the observed failure of its management to fully comply with the mandatory safety and environmental measures previously outlined by LAWMA.
Gbadegesin stressed, “Our primary concern is the safety of the people and environmental well-being at marketplaces. Reopening is contingent upon strict adherence to the safety conditions set forth by LAWMA. It is imperative that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent any potential risks.”
While other markets that met the outlined safety requirements have been permitted to resume business activities, Ladipo Market will remain closed until it successfully passes the requisite safety audit. The government’s decision to prioritize safety measures underscores its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of marketgoers and the surrounding environment.
On a positive note, Oyingbo, Ile Epo Oke-Odo, and Alamutu markets have all been reopened after meeting the stipulated safety requirements. The Lagos State Government continues to monitor and enforce safety standards across its markets to ensure the safety and welfare of its citizens.
