The Anambra woman, Chinyere Awuda from Nnobi community in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, has been laid to rest after her life tragically ended near an abandoned swimming pool on the premises of a well-known hotel in Awka. The 30-year-old graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, met her demise on July 15 under distressing circumstances, with her funeral taking place amidst heartrending scenes on a Saturday.
Chinyere Awuda was allegedly beaten to death at the hotel following accusations of pocketing money that was being showered during a birthday celebration. Her untimely passing deeply saddened her former classmates, friends, and relatives, all of whom fondly remembered her as a gentle and cherished individual.
Mr. and Mrs. Awuda, Chinyere’s grieving parents, found it almost unbearable to hold back their tears as they mourned the loss of their beloved daughter. Their sorrow was intensified by the fact that her life was unjustly cut short. They shared their sentiments, saying, “She was our fifth child. The news of her sudden death came to us as a rude shock. We never expected that her promising life with a bright future would be cut short in such a manner. We heard that she was beaten to death by a group of boys, and her lifeless body was discovered near an abandoned swimming pool in the hotel where she had gone with her friends to celebrate someone’s birthday.”
They continued, “Although the police claimed that an autopsy revealed she drowned, we firmly believe that she was murdered, especially since they have refused to release the CCTV footage of the incident. We have chosen to leave justice in the hands of God.”
Chinyere’s elder brother, Ekene, also expressed his dismay, lamenting the apparent lack of empathy from both the police and the hotel management throughout this distressing ordeal.
