“Lagos Monarch Enforces Festival Curfew, Police on High Alert”

The Lagos State Police Command is on high alert in response to concerns raised by a trending flyer warning residents, particularly non-Yoruba indigenes, to avoid being in Ikorodu town between 10pm and 5:30am on certain dates. The flyer, reportedly issued by the Olumale Eluku of Ikorodu, Chief Murisiku Oreagba, announces the Eluku Festival and advises certain individuals to stay away from Ikorodu during specific hours.

Oreagba confirmed the authenticity of the flyer, clarifying that the affected areas were limited to the old center of the town and not the entire town. The police have stated that they have not received any intelligence about security threats in Ikorodu but are remaining vigilant and prepared to respond to any issues that may arise.

The reasons behind the directive on the flyer are not entirely clear, but it appears to be related to the cultural event, and only specific individuals are recommended to stay away from certain areas during the festival. While some residents have expressed understanding and compliance with the directive, others have questioned the need for such restrictions and the apparent discrimination against non-indigenes.

The situation underscores the complexities of cultural practices, local traditions, and security concerns that can arise in different regions. The Lagos State Police Command’s alertness and readiness to respond demonstrate their commitment to maintaining public safety during potentially sensitive times.
