The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that a 37-year-old woman, Bilikisu Kazeem, lost her life in a gunfire exchange between law enforcement officers and kidnappers on Friday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The clash resulted in the successful rescue of nine hostages, with the police managing to release everyone except the kidnapped Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Philip Aivoji.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Omolola Odutola provided this information in a statement to journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday. The incident involved the abduction of several travelers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Odutola explained that during the encounter, a White Mazda Bus with registration LSR 288 XE sustained minor damage. Four individuals—Eunice Afolake Osalusi, Erinfolami Samuel, Obafemi Da Altantra, and Adeyinka Mathew—sustained non-life threatening bullet injuries as they attempted to escape but are currently recovering in stable condition in the hospital.
Tragically, Bilikisu Kazeem passed away before reaching the hospital, and her relatives declined a police autopsy examination, opting to collect her remains immediately.
The statement also mentioned the recovery of exhibits from the scene, including an AK47 magazine with 28 live ammunition believed to belong to the criminals, as well as mobile phones and a car key. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations has mobilized tactical commanders for joint operations with other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the PDP chairman, Philip Aivoji.
