Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a warning to Lagosians, emphasizing that the Blue Rail Line tracks are not intended for use as a marketplace. This caution came as the governor announced the resumption of the Blue Line Rail, which had been temporarily suspended over the weekend.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his delight at the reactivation of the LRMT Blue Line, now featuring an increased number of daily trips, rising from 12 trips to 54 trips per day. This figure is expected to further rise to 74 trips by the end of November, thanks to the efforts of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority. The rail service, which starts at 6:30 am, aims to offer commuters a smoother daily commute experience, with a more predictable schedule and additional conveniences like the Cowry Card and discounts to help manage expenses.
Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of safety and encouraged the public to avoid any unauthorized access to the rail tracks for any activities, whether legal or otherwise, reiterating that the rail tracks are not intended for commercial purposes.
In related news, the Lagos State Government ordered the reopening of the Mile 12 International Market, which had been sealed on Friday. The decision to reopen the market came after a thorough assessment of environmental compliance, waste management practices, and overall cleanliness within the market.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that issues related to the environment, public health, and safety were non-negotiable, and the government would not tolerate any compromise in these areas. He called on traders to adhere to acceptable hygiene and environmental standards, cautioning that the government would not hesitate to shut down any market that failed to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
