Lagos Tragedy: Woman, 2 Kids Lost

In a heartbreaking incident in the Ajamgbadi area of Lagos State, a woman and her two children lost their lives when a speeding car crashed into them on Saturday around 8:30 pm at 77 Bus Stop Shibiri Imude Road, Ajamgbadi.

The 29-year-old driver, identified as Oluwatimilehin Olajide, was behind the wheel of an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with registration number BDG-55IHG. Witnesses reported that the car was traveling at a high speed when it struck the woman and her two children, resulting in their immediate demise.

Faced with the threat of an angry mob seeking retribution, Olajide fled the scene and sought refuge in a nearby police post. Eyewitnesses recounted the mob’s attempt to apprehend him, prompting his escape to the Shibiri Police Post.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, confirmed the incident. According to him, the driver recounted the tragic event to the police, explaining that he hit the woman and her children, leading to their instant deaths.

The situation escalated when a furious mob gathered at the police post, demanding the release of the driver for vigilante justice. In response, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ilemba Hausa Division, along with a team of detectives, intervened to rescue Olajide and secure the damaged vehicle.

Hundeyin emphasized the need for responsible driving, particularly during the festive season, urging motorists to refrain from speeding and dangerous driving practices. As the deceased’s relatives make arrangements for the burial in accordance with Islamic rites, police officers remain stationed at the post to manage tensions in the area.
